Role Purpose

The Acoustic Test Engineer is a member of the Transducer Engineering Department. The purpose of this role is to ensure excellence in ultrasound transducer development by supporting comprehensive testing across various development stages — early concept validation, fabrication process verification, prototype characterization, acoustic safety testing, and final product verification. By completing a rigorous assessment of the novel ultrasound transducers, this position contributes to delivering high-quality, reliable solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop comprehensive test plans, protocols, and procedures for acoustic testing based on project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Operate and maintain a variety of acoustic test equipment and instrumentation, including hydrophones, radiation force balance, motor stage controllers, pulser or beamforming electronics, oscilloscopes, and function generators.

  • Utilize industry standard ultrasound systems such as the Verasonics Vantage research imaging system and Daxsonics' in-house beamformer electronics.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to design and implement acoustic test benches, including mechanical fixturing, acoustic phantom fabrication, and data processing algorithms.

  • Analyze and interpret acoustic test data, perform post-processing as necessary, and prepare detailed test reports documenting results, findings, and conclusions.

  • Debug and troubleshoot acoustic testing processes to identify and resolve issues, optimizing testing efficiency and accuracy.

  • Document standardized acoustic testing processes and procedures for future reference and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Software or similar) or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems; experience specifically with acoustic test equipment is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed engineering recommendations.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and present technical information clearly and concisely.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for data analysis and automation; familiarity with additional programming languages and experience conducting software analysis is advantageous.

Work Environment

May require standing for extended periods and lifting of light to moderate laboratory supplies and equipment.
